A Guide for TCCD Distance Learning Students

Checking your grades (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Gradebook’ in the Navigation Bar. The Student Summary screen will appear with your current grades.

To print your grades, click ‘Printer Friendly’ in the Application Links menu. A printer friendly version of your grades will appear that will allow you to print directly from your web browser.

Communicating with your Instructor and Classmates (Back to Content Page)

At times, you may need to contact your instructor or your classmates to get help with your class work. The Distance Learning site provides you with many ways to converse with your class, as well as access important information about lessons and assignments.

Getting your instructor’s Contact Information (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Faculty Profile’ in the Navigation Bar.

The ‘Faculty Profile’ page will appear with your instructor’s contact information and office hours.

-OR-

Click ‘ICR (Syllabus)’ from the Navigation Bar. Your instructor’s contact information will be at the top under ‘Faculty Information’.

Contacting your classmates (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Contact Classmates’ in the Navigation Bar. The Contact Students screen will appear.


Click the box next to each classmate you want to contact. You can also click ‘Select Inverse’ to contact everyone but the classmates you selected.

When you’ve selected the classmates you wish to contact, click the ‘Compose Email’ button. This will open a new window to your Distance Learning email, Webmail, as shown on the following page. The student email addresses are automatically added to the ‘To’ field.

Now you can enter a subject and message to your classmates. The gray bar at the bottom allows you to send attachments as well.

When you are ready to send your email to your classmates, simply click the ‘Send’ button.

Please note that if you have a pop up blocker, it must either be disabled or set to allow pop ups from dl.tccd.edu in order to use the Contact Classmates feature.

Seeing who else is online (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Who’s Online’ in the Navigation Bar.

The Who’s Online page will appear with a list of your classmates who are logged in to the class site.

Please note that this list only shows your classmates who are logged in to the specific class site you are viewing. It does not show students in other classes.

To see the user profile of a particular classmate in the list, click the username.

Chatting (Back to Content Page)

Chatting is a great way to get to know your classmates and discuss important information about your class because you converse in real time. At times, your instructor may even conduct class activities in the chat room.

The Distance Learning site also lets you chat with other students in other classes, so you can discuss school wide events, or get information about a class you want to take in the future.

Chatting with your class (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Chat’ in the Navigation Bar. The Online Chat screen will appear.

Click the ‘Click Here’ link to join the class chat room.

A new window will open to display the chat room. The picture demonstrates a chat in progress.

When you’re ready to enter the conversation, type in your message and click the ‘Post’ button.

When you are finished chatting, you can close the chat window by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner.

Chatting with other TCC students (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘School Chat’ in the Member Services menu on the left of the screen. The ‘General School Chat’ page will appear.
Click the hyperlink to join the school wide chat room. A new window will open with to display the school chat as demonstrated in the below image.

When you’re ready to enter the conversation, type in your message and click the ‘Post’ button.

When you are finished chatting, you can close the chat window by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner.

Using the Discussion Board (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Discussion Board’ in the Navigation Bar.

The Discussion Board page will appear. All classes will have a General Forum. However, the instructor may add more forums as needed for their course.

Click the name of a discussion forum you would like to view. The "Discussion Board page" will appear with an indicator of new messages within that forum.

Starting a new discussion thread (Back to Content Page)

Click the ‘Start New Topic’ button below the topic list to begin your own discussion. Doing this will open the following screen:

In the Subject field, enter something that identifies the content of the post. In the Message field, enter the content of your post. Please note the legend at the bottom that describes coding tags you can use to enhance your post.

When you are ready to make your post, click the ‘Start Topic’ button.
