Using Your Online Classroom A Guide for TCCD Distance Learning Students |
Accessing an individual Assignment (Back to Content Page) Click the name of an assignment in the ‘Assignments’ menu on the Classroom Home page. If your assignment is not listed, click ‘view all’ and the Assignments page will appear.
-OR- Click the name of an assignment in the ‘Assignments’ menu in the Classroom Portal screen. -OR- Click ‘View/Turn in’ in the Status column next to an assignment on the Assignments page.
Turning in an Assignment (Back to Content Page) Your instructor will specify one of several ways to turn your assignment in. The two most often used are described here.
To use File Upload, you'll create the assignment based on the criteria your instructor provides and then save the document to your computer hard drive. On the assignment page, click the 'Browse' button. This will open a window; locate your saved document and click 'OK'. This will close the window. You should see a long string of text in the field to the left of the ‘Browse’ button that will look something like ‘C:\Documents and Settings…’ this is normal – Do not delete this information. Now click the ‘Send Assignment’ button. If the assignment was uploaded correctly, you should receive a confirmation email shortly. You will also be able to return to the assignment screen and see your assignment listed. On the assignment page, scroll down until you see the ‘Enter Text’ box as in the picture on the left. Type your answers in this box and click the ‘Send Assignment’ button.
Accessing your Tests/Quizzes (Back to Content Page) Click ‘Tests/Quizzes’ in the Navigation Bar. The Tests/Quizzes screen will appear with a list of any available assessments your instructor has posted.
There are three options possible under the ‘Action’ column:
Not Available will display if the Tests/Quiz is not yet active, past its due date, or if you have used all of your attempts. If a Tests/Quiz is ‘Not Available’, you will not be able to access it. Only your instructor can reopen inactive tests. Take Quiz begins the assessment. Clicking it will present you with a warning confirmation. If you are ready to take the test, accept the confirmation. If you are not ready, decline the confirmation and an attempt will not be used. Print Preview is an optional feature that may or may not be used by your instructor. If it is available, you will be able to view a print-friendly list of the test questions. About Tests/Quizzes Attempts (Back to Content Page) Each test has a certain number of times that you can try to take it called ‘Attempts’. Every time you click ‘Take Quiz’ and accept the confirmation, an attempt is counted. Please note that an attempt is used regardless of whether or not all of the answers are filled out or if the test is submitted. You can see how many attempts a test has plus how many you have used by looking in the "Attempts" column on the main Test/Quiz page.
Taking a Test/Quiz (Back to Content Page) When you click ‘Take Quiz’ on an assessment and accept the confirmation, you will then be able to view its instructions and a question list. From this screen, you will be able to access the entire assessment and turn it in.
There are six different types of questions you may encounter in a Tests/Quiz:
These will be covered in greater detail over the next few pages. When you are ready to submit your test, click on the ‘Turn In Test’ button below the questions. |
