Using Your Online Classroom
A Guide for TCCD Distance Learning Students

The TCCD Distance Learning site was designed with you in mind. The layout of the site will make it easy for you access your class lessons, assignments, and grades. Before you can do any of that, you’ll need to learn the basics of accessing and using the site. The following procedures will help you with that:

Logging into the Distance Learning site (Back to Content Page)

  • Open your web browser and enter the following address: http://dl.tccd.edu
  • Click on ‘Virtual Classrooms (Log In)’.
  • Enter your user name and password in the space provided. Use the following format:
  • Username: firstname.lastname
    Example: jane.doe
  • Password: 1st letter of your last name followed by the last 4 digits of your Colleague ID Number.
    Example: d1234
  • Click ‘Login’. The Classroom Portal page will appear. If you are enrolled in more than one class you will see each listed to the right of the calendar and under ‘My Classes’ on the left.

Getting familiar with the Classroom Portal page (Back to Content Page)

The Classroom Portal page will be the first screen you will see when you log in to your account. It will be the access point for all of your classes and any other important Distance Learning information.

While the Classroom Portal page offers many of the same options as the Classroom Home page, its main purpose is to allow you to access all of your classes, while the Classroom Home page allows you to manage the details of one specific class.

Choosing your class (Back to Content Page)

While on the Classroom Portal page, click your class to the right of the Class Calendar.

-OR-

Click the name of your class from the ‘My Classes’ menu on the left. Please note that this menu appears on every page of your online class and can be clicked at any time to switch classes. Either method of clicking your class will bring up its home page.

Starting class work (Back to Content Page)

Once you log in and choose your class, you can get started on your class work. The Distance Learning site will help you do this by allowing you to keep up with current class events, read up-to-date instructor announcements, and access lessons. You will be able to perform all of these actions from either the Classroom Home page or via the Navigation Bar near the top of every page.

The first thing you will need to do in each class you are enrolled is complete the orientation.

Viewing your Online Orientation (Back to Content Page)

Click ‘Online Orientation’ in the Navigation Bar. The orientation screen will appear.

Each Orientation is a little different. Most will have you read some information about the course and then take a brief quiz.

If you have attended orientation on campus, this link may not be functional.

You will need to complete the orientation for every class in which you are enrolled.
